A page from my sketchbook from last fall. Drawing in Church is going to be a regular feature on this blog. I have quite an archive of things like this. My hope is that the accessible format of this blog will allow me to post stuff from my sketchbook every week.

I never did work directly with McMullan, though I met him acouple times. Thanks for the compliments on the lines. I often worry they don't offer enough visual variety.
ReplyDeleteI didn't use tithing envelopes, but I do remember feeling so excited when the bulletin cover was left mostly blank.
My husband draws in church, too. I used to think it sacriligious, but I've since gotten over it. At least he doesn't draw severed heads.
ReplyDeleteAndrea caught me drawing a naked woman once. "But its you! See, she's pregnant!" I said.
ReplyDeletePerhaps I should ask for the spiritual gift of discernment.
What I tell people (and it is generally true) is that when I'm drawing it really activates my listening. I've been listening to podcasts and audiobooks while drawing for a long time now. I love it! I subscribe to about 15-20 podcasts and usually listen to all them over the course of the work week.
don't draw naked women in church- especially your pregnant wife.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was 8 I made a drawing of a caveman dragging a naked woman by the hair (back to his cave, I suppose). Mom hissed at me disapprovingly, but Dad framed it and kept it in his office.
ReplyDeleteoh, she 'hissed' because we were in church at the time. I think it was during the offertory.
